On February 16th, 2012 we discussed Son of the Wilderness: The Life of John Muir by Linnie Marsh Wolfe and other selections as read by our members. Reading an array of John Muir’s writings, and other author’s accounts gave our discussion a well-rounded perspective of this man’s fantastic life.

March 17th, 2011 – The Bookclub met to discuss When Smoke Ran Like Water : Tales of Environmental Deception and the Battle Against Pollution by Devra Lee Davis and had an enlightening conversation on health, prevention, and the power of knowledge. See the discussion notes here.
February 17, 2011 -Bookclub met The Music of Nature Lang Elliot, an expert in recording the sounds of nature, was at the Schrader Center for a free evening presentation entitled, “The Music of Nature: Soundscape Recordings as Art Forms” on Thursday, February 17th Lang has provided a link to his blog in which he demonstrates one of the ideas we are exploring. Take a listen.

To promote gardening and instill a sense of providing for yourself, we kicked off the summer with May’s book selection of This Organic Life: Confessions of a Suburban Homesteader by Joan Dye Gussow

The Party’s Over: Oil, War, and the Fate of Industrial Societies by Richard Heinberg was April’s book of discussion.

In March 2010 we read the selection Mad Cowboy : Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won’t Eat Meat by Howard F. Lyman & Glen Merzer.

In February 2010 we read the selection Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer.
